A new moon is an occasion for oft-ritualized attentiveness, a periodic coincidence of ecliptic orbit that makes visible what is ever-present by removing it from sight: a rebirth that is not an emergence of the new but an attending-to of what's receded into the background, a meditation on noticing the environment as though you've suddenly heard it knocking at your door, "oh, here you are, stay a while, in the house where you've always lived." This is a quiet piece of music for sitting in my home, closing your eyes to look out toward the mountains, and feeling yourself remain the same, physically and intellectually coherent, a body and mind in space without time, spinning for a moment at the same ecliptic longitude as the sun and moon, disctinction between body and not-body blurred by eclipse, a small part of a cosmic/domestic ecology always there but not always attended to, the same as yourself each time you notice being but never exactly the same being as the last time you noticed.

Recorded in Los Angeles on August 22, 2021. Native American flute, processed tuning forks, 'field' recording. Mixed and mastered at NBC Nicaragua, Los Angeles, CA — September, 2021.
