Onyx Duet was founded in July 2021 by Sophia Emmanouilidou and Pachalina Digka in Thessaloniki, Greece and ever since it operates between Greece and Vienna, Austria. Onyx Duet is an improvisational flute duo whose main goal is the performance of contemporary music. Experimentation and Improvisation are the constant variables of this music project thus the performances of this duet consist of interpretation of graphic scores, performance of contemporary music scores, installations, multidisciplinary performances with pre-recorded sound material and/or live electronics.
Sophia Emmanouilidou studied Music Composition at Bachelor’s and Master’s level (5-years degree equivalent to an integrated master) in Faculty of Fine Arts, School of Music Studies at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (GR) under the supervision of Prof. Michalis Lapidakis. She studied also composition with Prof. Christos Samaras, Prof. Dimitris Papageorgiou and Prof. Dimitris Maronidis. Moreover, she had had composition master classes under the supervision of Mark Andre, Malin Bång, Bryan Ferneyhough, Jana Luksts, Heidi Kay Begay, Cristian Benvenuti and Reinhold Friedl. In 2020 she graduated from Aristotle University and she was admitted at the intersectional Master Programme “Sound Arts and Technologies” at Ionian University in Corfu (GR) in the specialisation of Autonomous Artistic Sound Composition. Sophia Emmanouilidou currently focuses on electroacoustic compositions and music programming as well all multidisciplinary compositions for acoustic instruments, tapes, media and music programming. She lives and works in Thessaloniki as a musician/composer/performer. Furthermore, for the last 5 years she has also been working as a music educator in Creative Employment Centers for Children (CECC)/ Music Schools/Conservatories and Public Vocational Training Institutes (PVTI).
Lina Digka is a flutist, performer and contemporary music specialist born in Serres Greece and currently lives in Vienna. She studied flute with Nikolaos Kakaidis and continued her studies with Katrin Zenz at the University of Macedonia Greece, department of Music Science and Art obtaining a Bachelors degree on Instrumental Flute performance. Alongside she also studied Counterpoint, Fugue and Orchestration. She currently studying Master Contemporary Music Ensemble with Eva Furrer and Jean Bernard Matter at the University of Music and performing arts in Vienna. Great influence for her were the masterclasses she attended and studied next to artists like Peter-Lukas Graf, Pierre Yves Artaud, Phillipe Allain Dupre, Emily Beynon, Nicola Mazzanti, Barbara Gisele Haase, Hans Georg Schmeiser etc. Her artistic activity involves collaboration with several orchestras and ensembles such as Webern Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra of Municipality of Thessaloniki, Moysa Megaro Youth Symphony Orchestra and she is a founding member of Synaylites flute ensemble, new music ensemble Mobile Wien and Duo Hyxos. She has performed new compositions for ensemble, chamber music and solo pieces for several composers and the Laboratory for Research on Contemporary Music DMSA. Her interests are improvisation, composition, electronic music, experimenting with digital art, designing and creating projects in collaboration with composers.

To ντουέτο Onyx ιδρύθηκε τον Ιούλιο του 2021 από τη Σοφία Εμμανουηλίδου και την Πασχαλίνα Δίγκα στη Θεσσαλονίκη και από τότε δραστηριοποιείται μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Βιέννης, Αυστρία. Το ντουέτο Onyx είναι ένα αυτοσχεδιαστικό ντουέτο φλάουτων με κύριο στόχο την εκτέλεση σύγχρονης μουσικής. Ο πειραματισμός και ο αυτοσχεδιασμός είναι οι σταθερές μεταβλητές αυτού του μουσικού πρότζεκτ και έτσι οι παραστάσεις αυτού του ντουέτου αποτελούνται από ερμηνεία γραφικών παρτιτούρων, εκτέλεση παρτιτούρων σύγχρονης μουσικής, εγκαταστάσεις, πολυμεσικές παραστάσεις με προηχογραφημένο ηχητικό υλικό ή/και ζωντανά ηλεκτρονικά.
Η Σοφία Εμμανουηλίδου σπούδασε Σύνθεση σε προπτυχιακό και μεταπτυχιακό επίπεδο (πτυχίο 5 ετών ισοδύναμο με integrated master) στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών, του τμήματος Μουσικών Σπουδών του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης (GR) υπό την επίβλεψη του καθηγητή Μιχάλη Λαπιδάκη. Σπούδασε επίσης σύνθεση με τους καθηγητές Χρήστο Σαμαρά, Δημήτρη Παπαγεωργίου και Δημήτρη Μαρωνίδη. Επιπλέον, έχει κάνει master classes σύνθεσης με τους Mark Andre, Malin Bång, Bryan Ferneyhough, Jana Luksts, Heidi Kay Begay, Cristian Benvenuti και Reinhold Friedl. Το 2020 αποφοίτησε από το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο και έγινε δεκτή στο διατμηματικό μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα σπουδών «Τέχνες και Τεχνολογίες του Ήχου» του Ιονίου Πανεπιστημίου στην Κέρκυρα (GR) στην κατεύθυνση της Ηλεκτροακουστικής Καλλιτεχνικής Δημιουργίας. Επί του παρόντος, η Σοφία Εμμανουηλίδου επικεντρώνεται σε ηλεκτροακουστικές συνθέσεις και σε συνθέσεις με χρήση μουσικού προγραμματισμού, καθώς και σε multimedia συνθέσεις με συνδυασμό ακουστικών οργάνων, tapes, βίντεο και μουσικού προγραμματισμού. Ζει και εργάζεται στην Θεσσαλονίκη ως μουσικός/συνθέτης/εκτελεστής. Επιπλέον, τα τελευταία 5 χρόνια εργάζεται επίσης ως μουσικοπαιδαγωγός σε κέντρα Δημιουργικής Απασχόλησης (ΚΔΑΠ)/Μουσικές Σχολές/Ωδεία και Δημόσια Ινστιτούτα Επαγγελματικής Κατάρτισης (ΔΙΕΚ).
Η Λίνα Δίγκα είναι φλαουτίστα, ερμηνεύτρια και ειδικός στη σύγχρονη μουσική γεννημένη στις Σέρρες Ελλάδας που σήμερα ζει στη Βιέννη. Σπούδασε φλάουτο με τον Νικόλαο Κακαΐδη και συνέχισε τις σπουδές της με την Katrin Zenz στο Πανεπιστήμιο Μακεδονίας, στο τμήμα Μουσικής Επιστήμης και Τέχνης, αποκτώντας πτυχίο στην εκτέλεση του φλάουτου. Παράλληλα, σπούδασε Αντίστιξη, Φούγκα και Ενορχήστρωση. Σήμερα σπουδάζει στο Master Contemporary Music Ensemble με την Eva Furrer και τον Jean Bernard Matter στο Πανεπιστήμιο Μουσικής και Παραστατικων Τεχνων στη Βιέννη. Μεγάλη επιρροή γι' αυτήν υπήρξαν τα masterclasses που παρακολούθησε και σπούδασε δίπλα σε καλλιτέχνες όπως οι Peter-Lukas Graf, Pierre Yves Artaud, Phillipe Allain Dupre, Emily Beynon, Nicola Mazzanti, Barbara Gisele Haase, Hans Georg Schmeiser κ.α. Η καλλιτεχνική της δραστηριότητα περιλαμβάνει συνεργασία με αρκετές ορχήστρες και σύνολα όπως το Webern Ensemble, τη Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα Δήμου Θεσσαλονίκης, τη Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα Νέων του Μεγάρου Μουσικής Θεσσαλονίκης (MOYSA) και είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος του συνόλου φλάουτων Συναυλητές, του συνόλου σύγχρονης μουσικής Mobile Wien και του Duo Hyxos. Έχει ερμηνεύσει νέες συνθέσεις για σύνολο, μουσική δωματίου και σόλο κομμάτια για αρκετούς συνθέτες όπως και για το Εργαστήριο Έρευνας Σύγχρονης Μουσικής DMSA. Τα ενδιαφέροντά της είναι ο αυτοσχεδιασμός, η σύνθεση, η ηλεκτρονική μουσική, ο πειραματισμός με την ψηφιακή τέχνη, ο σχεδιασμός και η δημιουργία έργων σε συνεργασία με συνθέτες.
