Vostok 3 is a solo project from Stuart Barton. Former drummer in space funk psyche trio Soul Thief.
"After the self-destruction of Soul Thief I decided to jump down the rabbit hole that is Eurorack Modular synthesis mainly as it is more fun than drumming on your own.
Inspiration for Vostok3 came from the long held love of Soviet graphics, music and movies. These styles developed outside of my western heritage and so have a unique and fascinating path of their own. Soviet poster art is well known for being bold and striking. As for music the Politburo looked for anything non-western and electronic music seemed to fit. They invented and developed their own electronic synthesisers, The Polivoks is now a classic desired around the globe for its unique tones and surely the most unique synth ever is the AMS optical synth – however it was rather large and took 20 men to move it. The movies of Andrei Tarkovsky are visually haunting and beautiful and his sci-fi epic Solaris used the AMS on the soundtrack.
Once thing about the Eurorack format is that there are hundreds of boutique manufacturers around the world and I have some Polivoks modules from Latvia in my system."
