Crystaux - Source (2:42)

1982, Paris

The original recording captured the sound of small crystals colliding to each other, recorded in composers’ own studio in 1979. It was transformed into physical tape loops from 20 to 80 centimeters long. These tape loops were played concurrently on different tape recorders at SEV - Paris studio and went through a mixing unit that fed a VCS3 modular synthesizer. The result is a piece that is mostly a performance of mixing combinations of VCS’s real-time controls and the eight tracks coming from the loops.
