North to Northwest (3:10)

1981, Paris

Some small parts of vocal music recordings, from various parts of the world were isolated on tapes at the Laboratory of Ethnomusicology of the Sorbonne University. These tapes were then processed in the SEV - Paris studio. Some electronic sound objects were produced by tape-processing simple sound waves (tape reversing, slicing and speed altering). The main patch was loop-processing, first through a graphic equalizer and then through two VCS3 synthesizers using low-frequency and ring modulation. It includes two almost equal parts; beginning with analog synthesized sounds and high dynamics and followed by reminiscence with greater presence of the vocal material and much lower dynamics.
