σύγχρονο δίλημμα : Έλληνες συνθέτες του 21ου αιώνα

Στα μέσα του 2020 διαπίστωσα ότι οι κοινωνικές και πολιτιστικές αντιξοότητες που ανήλθαν βάναυσα στην επιφάνεια τόσο από την υγειονομική κρίση όσο κι από τα συνεχόμενα χρόνια οικονομικής ταλαιπωρίας της χώρας, δημιούργησαν (πιθανόν όχι και τόσο τυχαία) μια σειρά αξιόλογων δίσκων Ελλήνων Πειραματιστών – Μουσικών. Ανθρώπων κάθε ηλικίας που δεν κόμπιασαν να αρθρώσουν δυνατά τον προσωπικό τους λόγο ηχητικής ύπαρξης στο περιορισμένο κοινό.

Τότε αποφάσισα ότι θα έπρεπε να φτιάξουμε όλοι μαζί ένα ημερολόγιο ήχων για το σωτήριο έτος 2020. Ξεκίνησα να επικοινωνώ ένα σύνολο είκοσι πέντε περίπου καλλιτεχνών τους οποίους εκτιμούσα για το πρόσφατο έργο τους. Επίτηδες επέλεξα να μην γνωρίζω προσωπικά κανέναν και καμία εξ αυτών από πριν. Ήθελα να κινηθώ σε νέα μονοπάτια τριγύρω από την ηλεκτροακουστική, musique concrete και εν γένει πειραματική ηλεκτρονική μουσική. Σολίστες, άνθρωποι πλασμένοι για συνεργασίες και αυτοσχεδιασμό, συνεργατικά μουσικά σύνολα, γυναίκες κι άντρες και συγκροτήματα ανταποκρίθηκαν οι περισσότεροι με ζέση.

Υπήρχαν κι άνθρωποι καχύποπτοι κι ελάχιστοι που δεν απάντησαν καν στο αρχικό μήνυμα. Το σημαντικότερο είναι όμως ότι είκοσι καλλιτέχνες του σήμερα έστειλαν νέο υλικό που ικανοποίησε τις ηχητικές μου προσμονές. Κι όχι μόνο αυτό, αλλά πυροδότησε και κάποιους να ξαναμπούν στη δημιουργική διαδικασία που λόγω του πρώτου εγκλεισμού και της έλλειψης εργασίας είχαν απολέσει. Μερικούς άλλους τους έκανε να θέλουν να κυκλοφορήσουν δουλειές εγκαταλειμμένες στη λήθη των σκληρών δίσκων τους. Το σίγουρο είναι ότι απέκτησα νέους φίλους και φίλες να συναντήσω στα μελλοντικά μου ταξίδια για κάποια συναυλία στην πρωτεύουσα κυρίως!

Αυτές οι δύο ώρες είναι γεμάτες με εξαιρετικές ιδέες που είκοσι και δύο «κρυφοί» μουσικοί ηχογράφησαν αποκλειστικά για αυτή τη συλλογή. Το σύγχρονο δίλημμα αφορά τη μη παραίτηση ενός δημιουργού όσο περίεργα κι αν κατευθύνεται το εξωτερικό περιβάλλον που όλους μας τυλίγει – πνίγει. Αυτοί οι Έλληνες καλλιτέχνες απαντούν συσπειρωμένοι με ότι καλύτερο έχω ακούσει εδώ και χρόνια από την τοπική και παραέξω αυτοσχεδιαστική και δίχως φόρμες μουσική σκηνή. Τους ακούω τώρα που ολοκληρώθηκε το έργο μετά από τέσσερις μήνες κι αναρωτιέμαι αν ήταν τόσο σημαντική η στιγμή επικοινωνίας ή απλά τυχαίο. Μας αρέσει το τυχαίο και το απολαμβάνουμε σ’ αυτό που εμείς αποκαλούμε πειραματική μουσική.

contemporary dilemma: Greek composers of the 21st century

In the middle of 2020 I realized that the social and cultural adversities that came to the surface brutally both from the health crisis and from the continuous years of economic suffering of the country, created (probably not so accidentally) a series of remarkable records of Greek Experimental - Musicians. People of all ages did not bother to articulate their personal purpose for sound existence in a limited audience.

Then I decided that we should all make a sound diary for the year of salvation 2020. I started communicating with a total of about twenty-five artists whom I appreciated for their recent work. I deliberately chose not to know personally any of them before. I wanted to move on to new paths around electroacoustic, musique concrete and experimental electronic music in general. Soloists, people made for peculiar sound projects and improvisation, collaborative music ensembles, women and men and bands most responded with enthusiasm.

There were also some suspicious few people who did not even answered to the original message. But the most important thing is that twenty artists of today sent new material that met my sound expectations. Not only that, but it also sparked some re-entry into the creative process that they had lost due to the first lockdown and lack of paid work. It made some others want to release forgotten projects on their hard drives. What is certain is that I gained new friends to meet on my future trips for a concert in the capital city and beyond!

These two hours are full of great ideas that twenty (plus two "hidden") musicians recorded exclusively for this collection. The modern dilemma concerns the non-resignation of a creator, no matter how strangely directed the external environment that envelops and drowns us all. These Greek contemporary artists respond with the best recorded material I have heard for years and produce an improvised and formless music scene genre. I hear them now that the project is completed after four months and I wonder if the moment of communication was so important or just random. We like the random case and enjoy it in what we call experimental music.
